Public Access Computers
The library has several computers available for public use. They are accessible on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remember to bring your library card or identification with you when visiting the library and a USB flash drive if you need to save your work.
- Desktop computer sessions are typically one hour in length. If there is no waiting list, the session management software will automatically extend user sessions up to a daily maximum of four hours.
- Computers in the Children’s Room are intended for the use of children in Kindergarten through Grade 6.
- Desktop and laptop computers in the Young Adult Room may be used by patrons in Grade 6 through Grade 12.
- Reference Department computers are available to users in Grade 6 and those older.
- Wireless laptop computers are available at the Reference Desk for use inside the library by visitors 18 and older.
Software Available on Desktop Computers in Reference Department: Microsoft Windows 10; Google Chrome web browser; Mozilla Firefox web browser; Microsoft Word 2016; Microsoft Excel 2016; Microsoft PowerPoint 2016; Microsoft Publisher 2016; WinWay Resume Deluxe.
Wireless Internet Access
The East Meadow Public Library offers free Wi-Fi. The Library’s public wireless network SSID is Library.
If you need to print from your device, please utilize the Library’s MobilePrint service.
When using the Wi-Fi, please adhere to the Library’s Policy on Public Use of the Internet. Kindly visit or call (794-2570, option 2) a librarian at the Reference Desk if you have any questions.
All public access computers are connected to a networked laser printer. Need to print from home or your own device? Check out MobilePrint.
Black and white printing is charged for at ten cents per page. Color charge is thirty cents per page.
Funds to be used for printing can be added to your account in one of two ways:
- By utilizing the Add Value Station (coins and bills only) located near the Reference Desk copier or
- By using your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account.
Please Note: Deposited funds cannot be used at other libraries.
MobilePrint is a service that allows you to print from your laptop, tablet, smartphone, or home computer and release the job on a Library printer. Click the blue MobilePrint button at the top of the page to learn more.
There are copiers located near the Circulation and Reference Desks. The cost for a black & white copy is 10 cents. Color copying is available on the same machine at a cost of 30 cents per page. All copiers accept coins and $1 bills. The copiers adjacent to the entrance also accept bulk copy cards (which are sold at the Circulation Desk).
Learning Computers and iPads
Two desktop computers and five iPads pre-loaded with educational software applications are available for use inside the Children’s Room by children and their parents or guardian. iPads must remain inside the Children’s Room and are restricted to EM School District residents with proper identification.
A video magnifier is available at the Reference Desk to aid low vision users.
An electric typewriter is available for public use at the Reference Desk.
The copier located adjacent to the Reference Desk can be used to transmit a document via fax to a domestic number. Cost is $1.50 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page. Fees for faxing are collected at the Circulation Desk.
The copier located near the Reference Desk can be used to scan documents or photos to a compatible USB flash drive. The fee is $0.05 per page. Alternatively, a flatbed scanner is available to computer users in the Reference Desk area and to wireless laptop computer users. Converting a scanned document to editable text (also known as Optical Character Recognition or OCR) is not currently supported by library equipment.
A digital microfilm scanner is available for use in the Reference Department. It accepts 16mm and 35mm film as well as fiche. Printing from the scanner costs ten cents per page. Saving scans to a USB flash drive is supported at no additional cost.
