Public Access Computers

Public computers are accessible on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remember to bring your library card or identification with you when visiting the library and a USB flash drive if you need to save your work.

Wireless Internet Access

The East Meadow Public Library offers free Wi-Fi.  The Library’s public wireless network SSID is Library.

If you need to print from your device, please utilize the Library’s MobilePrint service.

When using the Wi-Fi, please adhere to the Library’s Policy on Public Use of the Internet.  Kindly visit or call a librarian at the Reference Desk (516-794-2570, option 2) if you have any questions.

Printing

Visitors to the Library have access to a business-grade monochrome and color printer.  Need to print from home or your own device?  Check out MobilePrint.

Black and white printing is charged for at ten cents per page.  Color charge is twenty cents per page.

Funds to be used for printing can be added to your account in one of two ways:

Hotspot Lending Program

The hotspot lending program is a free service that allows EMPL adult cardholders to borrow a mobile hotspot device and connect to the internet from almost anywhere!

Borrowing a mobile hotspot device is limited to 1 checkout per household in a 30 day period.

MobilePrint

MobilePrint is a service that allows you to print from your laptop, tablet, smartphone, or home computer and release the job on a Library printer.  Click the blue MobilePrint button at the top of the page to learn more.

Copiers

There are copiers located near the entrance.  The cost for a black & white copy is 10 cents.  Color copying is available on the same machine at a cost of 20 cents per page.  All copiers accept coins and $1 bills.  The copier adjacent to the PR Office also accepts bulk copy cards (which are sold at the Circulation Desk).

Learning Computers

Two desktop computers, known as Early Literacy Stations, pre-loaded with educational software applications, are available for use inside the Children’s Room by children and their parents or guardian.  Public computers are available in the Children’s Room if a child requires access to the internet.

Fax Service

The copier located closest to the main entrance can be used to transmit a document via fax to a domestic number. Cost is $1.50 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page with a maximum charge of $5.00. Fees for faxing are collected at the Circulation Desk. Please visit or contact the Reference Desk for further assistance with faxes.

Scanner

The copiers located near the entrance can be used to scan documents or photos to a compatible USB flash drive or to email.  The fee is $0.05 per page.

A flatbed scanner is also available for use on the public computers at no additional cost.

Microfilm/Microfiche Scanner

The digital microfilm scanner is available for use. Please visit or contact the Reference Desk for further information.

omniReader

The omniReader® reads printed text to you by pressing a single button. You can follow the magnified text in high-contrast colors on the built-in screen, or simply listen as the omniReader reads text out loud. You can also use the screen to instantly magnify objects and text and display them in high-contrast colors to see them more clearly. Thanks to its lightweight design, built-in handle, and long battery life, you can pick it up and use it wherever you want.

The omniReader is available to borrow at the Reference Desk for use in the Library only. A library card or ID must be left at the Reference Desk while the device is being used. Please visit or contact the Reference Desk for further information.

Portable Charger

Two Anker PowerHouse portable chargers are available to borrow at the Reference Desk for use in-library only. The portable charger’s are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A library card or ID must be left at the Reference Desk while the portable charger is being used. A $200 replacement fee will be incurred if the portable charger is not returned.
